Description

10am - 12pm EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME

A series of techniques useful in knitting a picture without a pattern or graph paper. In this session, you'll learn:

  • Visualizing a background
  • Selecting yarns for a pictorial project
  • Introducing a new color of yarn in a project that has already been started
  • Switching colors and shifting colors within a row (including crossing)
  • Finishing off with a color mid-row after concluding its use
  • Carrying yarn across small sections of a different color
  • Using one skein for two sections of yarn
  • Mathematical spacing of yarns of differing colors
  • Mathematical attachment of sleeves (which rows to attach)
  • Knitpicking

Recommended homework:

Cast on 30 stitches knitwise of your main color of yarn (the one you have two skeins of which are that color, preferably the larger of the two of these skeins), then purl row two in that color. Doing two more rows in that color is strongly recommended as well if your yarn supply permits. This takes several minutes (depending on your knitting speed) and will allow more to be covered and more time for asking questions within the two hours.

Supplies: 2 needles size 8 or 9, 2 skeins worsted weight color 1, 1 skein worsted weight color 2, 1 skein worsted weight multicolored yarn with colors not resembling other two colors
