Name
Shear Joy with a Llama - Tabbethia of Long Island Yarn and Farm
Description

Tis the season for all things spring! And while I struggled to see how we could embrace the “happy unbirthday” theme for this Knit and Escape, I realized that by the time I am done with the demo, the animals will be in their birthday suits! Does that count?

And such is what spring means to me as a fiber farmer; longer and warmer days, baby animals and most importantly shearing season. It is the time of year in which we harvest the very medium that fiber enthusiasts cherish. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to be part of our virtual shearing demonstrations with one of our sheep and one of our llamas. In each one hour demo we will engage in a detailed discussion of the shearing process; the animal, the fibers and the steps that follow that take it from the animal to the yarn. See how shearing differs from sheep to llama. Whether you have seen a shearing demonstration before or not, we promise you will gain a greater appreciation for where your yarn comes from and there is always something new to learn. This demo will be both fun and educational and as a professional shearer, Tabbethia always looks forward to the opportunity to share her perspective on this process. As all of our yarn tags say, “Shearing is an intimate process between the animals and myself. My relationship to them is always one of patience and positive approach…..Long Island Yarn and Farm puts a face with the fiber and through the hand knit garments people make, connect you to the animals we love.
