Description

6pm - 8pm EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME

In this two-part workshop, Julie Weisenberger teaches the Cocoknits Method of sweater knitting, outlined in her book Cocoknits Sweater Workshop . We will cover the first four sections of the Cocoknits Method, including instruction on how to use the Cocoknits Method Worksheet in coordination with colored stitch markers.
A pattern for a baby sweater will be provided, which students may consider a practice swatch, or work to completion on their own.

Technique Requirements:

  • Knit/purl
  • cast on/bind off
  • increase/decrease
  • experience knitting a few accessories
  • basic finishing techniques

Supplies needed for the class

Yarn:

  • 300–400 yards of worsted / bulky / chunky weight yarn - for baby sweater Keep in mind that lighter colors are easier to see!
  • gauge 16 st/24 rows to 4in. - pattern is a 12 month size, larger gauge yarn will yield larger size sweater.
  • Make a swatch so you’ll know what needles to use.

Needles:

  • circular needle appropriate for your chosen yarn, usually a US 8–11, the circ needle should be 30" or longer with a soft, flexible cord.
  • one skinny (US 0–2) circ needle (any length) or dpn - for picking up sts.

Other:

  • 6 colored stitch markers (red, green, orange, blue, violet, yellow)
  • Printed handout, page 9 should be in color if possible

Homework for the class

  • Print the handout! If you do not have a color printer, please use magic markers to color the vertical lines of the worksheet on page 9. From right to left, the vertical lines should be Red, Green, Orange, Blue, Violet, Yellow.
  • Familiarize yourself with the increases KLL, KRL, PLL, PRL - we have videos of each one on our website (cocoknits.com) as well as written instructions in the book, and in your handout with all four increases on one “cheat-sheet”.
  • Swatch your chosen yarn to ensure your yarn is easy to see and work with. We recommend a smooth yarn in a light color. Gauge is not really important for baby sweater, unless you know you are knitting for a specific baby/size.
