What’s your Type? A framework for understanding wool and breed-specific choices with Gretchen Frederick & Kathy Reed
Description

A one hour Lecture/demo for knitters to think about wool and learn what they like or might like to try. There are literally hundreds of sheep breeds and who can memorize each of them and their fleece characteristics to reference when it comes time to select a yarnfor your project? One way to make it easier is to group fleece into categories according to their characteristics. When confronted with a breed you don’t have experience with, knowing which type it is gives you a solid platform to explore from.
We’ll discuss five types of sheep wool: Medium, Long, Primitive (or double coated), Fine and Down type. What do we mean by each and what does the type tell you about the wool? Why does that matter? Find out the answers and bring your questions!
