Description

Crochet Colorwork 101: Focus on intarsia 
We will speak about color theory, how fiber content plays into colorwork, mixing yarn of different fibers in one project, 
Led by Vincent Williams of Visuvio’s Crafts, students will learn the tools, techniques, and mechanics used within the INTARSIA crochet colorwork style, including color theory, how fiber content plays into colorwork, mixing yarn of different fibers in one project, anatomy of intarsia fabric, reading a colorwork pattern and chart, working flat vs. in the round, working with bobbins, how to read your fabric, and how to transition from one color to the next.

Adventurous Beginner - Intermediate
Understands the following concepts:
Single crochets (sc) , Half double crochets (dc), Double crochets (dc)
Crocheting flat vs. In-the-round
Following written instructions
Has completed a minimum of 2 or more crochet accessories
Ready to move to the next level (For example, adjusting yarn weight/hook size to modify gauge, understanding colorwork charts, learning about tension in colorwork)

Supplies:
US H/5.0 mm or US I/5.5 mm crochet hook
4 or more locking stitch markers
Scissors
Pencil for marking on your printed handout
Session A
Colors A, B, C, & D: 25-50 grams DK (or worsted) weight yarn
Session B
Color A: 50-100 grams DK (or worsted) weight yarn 
Color B: 50-100 grams DK (or worsted) weight yarn
*Partially used skeins of contrasting dk or worsted weight from your stash would work well for this course. Students can also opt to use many different skeins of leftover yarn or 20 gram minis to crochet a super colorful creation. Feel free to go as cohesive, neutral, or crazy colorful as you’d like with all of your yarn selections. If you have 50 grams of a color you were utilizing in Session A, the remaining yardage of those same colors can be used during Session B. The singular cowl that we begin in these two sessions will contain both of the colorwork styles (intarsia and tapestry crochet) learned in class.

Crochet Colorwork 101: Session B
Led by Vincent Williams of Visuvio’s Crafts, students will build upon their new colorwork skill set/knowledge from “Session A” by learning the tools, techniques, and mechanics used within the FAIR ISLE/TAPESTRY CROCHET crochet colorwork style, including color theory, floats/how to catch floats, how tension impacts the fabric, how fiber content plays into colorwork, mixing yarn of different fibers in one project, anatomy of fair isle/tapestry crochet fabric, reading a colorwork pattern and chart, how to read your fabric, how to transition from one color to the next, and finishing techniques.
